1Swim Training, Hydrotherapy, or Both?
Swim spas are generally built around one of two layouts. A 1 Zone model combines a counter-current swim area with seating in a single compartment — it suits customers who mainly want swim training, or mainly want hydrotherapy seating with a strong current available when they want it. A 2 Zone model physically separates the swim lane from the spa/seating area, so both can be used independently and simultaneously — for example, one person training while another relaxes in the hydrotherapy zone.

2What Electrical Supply Does Your Property Have?
Electrical supply is one of the most practical constraints on swim spa selection in Mallorca. A 1 Zone swim spa can generally run on a dedicated single-phase (230V) circuit with the correct fuse rating, similar to our larger whirlpool models. A 2 Zone model runs a separate counter-current swim system and a spa/hydrotherapy zone at the same time, which typically requires a three-phase (400V) connection so heating and jets can run together without tripping the system.
Not every property on the island — particularly older villas, fincas and some more remote plots — has three-phase power available. If your property only has single-phase (230V), the Advisor lets you flag interest in a phase-converter solution: we work with a specialist partner who can supply a phase converter to generate a three-phase supply from an existing single-phase connection, making 2 Zone models possible without a native three-phase connection. This is a specialist, separately priced solution — tick the box on that question and we'll follow up personally with a dedicated quote. Otherwise, we recommend verifying the available supply with your electrician, or with us, before committing to a 2 Zone model.
3What Total Project Budget Should Be Considered?
Across our current Waterwave swim spa range, list pricing runs from around €25.000 for the most compact entry models up to €74.000 and above for the largest flagship units. Price is driven mainly by size, zone configuration and finish level rather than any single feature, so two models at a similar price point can differ noticeably in what they offer.
The budget figure used in the Advisor is an approximate starting point based on current list pricing, not a final quotation. As with the rest of our swim spa range, final project pricing — including any site-specific groundwork, electrical upgrades or access requirements — is always confirmed after a technical assessment of your property.
4Installation Type, Space & Foundation
Swim spas are considerably larger and heavier than whirlpools, especially once filled — a 2 Zone model can weigh several tonnes with water and bathers. A level, reinforced concrete foundation (or a structurally appropriate terrace or platform) is required, along with sufficient access for crane or lifting equipment during delivery, regardless of installation type.
This question also filters directly on our catalog's installation-type field. Currently, that field only distinguishes models explicitly built as "Semi Inground" from the rest of the range (treated as standard, free-standing units). Choosing Garden or Existing terrace favours the standard free-standing models — the large majority of the range. Choosing Sunken / in-ground / semi in-ground narrows the shortlist to the specific models built for that installation style; a fully sunken, flush in-ground build isn't yet catalogued as its own distinct category, so we treat that as the closest available match and discuss any custom in-ground project work directly. For terrace or sunken/in-ground installations, the structural load, foundation pit, drainage and reinforcement need to be planned in advance, together with equipment access for future servicing. If you are not yet sure what your property can support, that is exactly the kind of question we help answer during a site visit — it does not need to be resolved before using the Advisor.
5Do You Need a Building Licence?
This depends primarily on how the swim spa is installed — not on its price. A free-standing, above-ground swim spa placed directly on a terrace or level prepared ground, with no excavation, is generally treated as a portable structure and in most cases does not require a building licence. If it is sunk into the ground, built into a terrace, or involves excavation or retaining walls, this is treated as construction work and normally requires a licencia de obra from the local town hall (ayuntamiento).
Common practice for ground or pool-type work in the Balearics is that excavation or retaining walls under approximately 1 metre can often be processed as a simplified "obra menor" (declaración responsable), while deeper or more structural work requires a full "licencia de obra mayor" — but exact thresholds and procedures are set at municipality level, not fixed in regional law, so this can differ between ayuntamientos. This is general guidance, not legal advice — use the (i) icon next to this question for a summary and a link to the relevant Balearic planning law, and always confirm the exact requirement for your property and municipality with the local ayuntamiento or a licensed architect/aparejador before starting work. 6Priorities (Choose Up to Two)
Some priorities can already be scored against real catalog data: models marked as a simpler "Basic" trim in our range genuinely correspond to a more straightforward equipment specification, which we use as a fair proxy for lower running costs and easier day-to-day maintenance. Premium and flagship-tier models are used to identify a more premium finish and feature set.
Other priorities — strong swim current, a true 2 Zone layout, or a specific compact footprint — cannot yet be matched against a verified per-model specification, because zone type and exact dimensions are not yet recorded for every model in our catalog. Selecting these priorities is still useful (it's noted in your result), but it will not narrow the shortlist until that data is completed.
How Our Swimspa Advisor Works
The Swimspa Advisor is a rule-based tool. It does not use generative AI and does not invent recommendations. All results are calculated locally in your browser using transparent scoring rules applied to our current Waterwave swim spa catalog.
The Advisor evaluates answers to six questions:
- Swim training, hydrotherapy, or both (zone type)
- Available electrical supply (single-phase or three-phase), including optional phase-converter interest
- Approximate total project budget
- Installation type, space and foundation (garden, terrace, sunken/in-ground/semi in-ground)
- Building licence situation (informational only)
- Key priorities — up to two selections
Note on current scope: unlike the Whirlpool Advisor, which scores on verified seat count, pump configuration and dimensions per model, the Swimspa Advisor currently scores primarily on budget tier, electrical compatibility (where known) and installation type — full per-model specification (zone type, exact dimensions, electrical phase) is being added to the catalog. Until that data is complete, the Advisor narrows to a shortlist rather than a single precise match, and final model confirmation always follows a site assessment.
