What's the difference between a swim spa and a whirlpool?
A whirlpool is designed purely for relaxation and hydrotherapy in a seated position. A swim spa additionally includes a dedicated swimming zone with a counter-current system, allowing you to swim in place, train, or do water exercises — in addition to the seating and massage area. Our 2 Zone models physically separate the swimming lane from the spa area, so both can be used independently.
How much space and foundation does a swim spa need?
Swim spas are larger and considerably heavier than whirlpools, especially when filled — a 2 Zone model can weigh several tonnes with water and bathers. A level, reinforced concrete foundation (or a structurally appropriate terrace or platform) is required, along with sufficient access for crane or lifting equipment during delivery. For sunken or terrace-integrated installations, we plan the pit, drainage and reinforcement with you in advance.
What kind of electrical connection does a swim spa need?
This depends on the model. Our 1 Zone swim spa can generally run on a dedicated single-phase (230V) circuit with the correct fuse rating — similar to our larger whirlpool models. However, our 2 Zone (split) models run a separate counter-current swim system and a spa/hydrotherapy zone simultaneously, which typically requires a three-phase (400V) connection so that heating and jets can operate at the same time without the system tripping.
This is an important point in Mallorca: not every property — particularly older villas, fincas, and some more remote plots — has a three-phase supply available. We strongly recommend verifying the available electrical supply at your property with your electrician (or with us) before ordering a 2 Zone swim spa, as upgrading to three-phase via the local network operator (Endesa) can involve additional cost and lead time.
Do I need a building licence for a swim spa?
It depends on how it's installed. A free-standing, above-ground swim spa placed directly on a level base is generally treated as a portable structure and in most cases does not require a building licence. However, if the swim spa is built into a terrace, sunk into the ground, or involves masonry, structural or terracing work, this normally counts as construction work and will require a licencia de obra from the local town hall (ayuntamiento) before starting. Regardless of the installation type, a level, properly prepared base is always required — this is a technical necessity for the structure itself, separate from any licensing question. Requirements vary by municipality, so we always recommend confirming with your local ayuntamiento or with us before installation.
How long does installation take?
A straightforward, above-ground swim spa is typically operational within a few days of delivery. Sunken or terrace-integrated projects take longer, as foundation work, electrical installation and sometimes structural reinforcement are required — we agree a realistic timeline with you during the planning phase.
Can a swim spa be used year-round in Mallorca's climate?
Yes. With a well-insulated shell, a quality thermal cover and a correctly sized heating system, a swim spa can be used comfortably throughout Mallorca's mild winters as well as in summer. For properties close to the coast, salt-air resistant materials for the cabinet and surrounding build are also recommended.
How much does it cost to run a swim spa?
Running costs depend on usage, insulation, cover use and local electricity rates. A 2 Zone model naturally costs more to run than a 1 Zone model or a standard whirlpool, due to the larger water volume and two systems in operation. An insulated locking cover and sensible scheduling (e.g. via the Wi-Fi module) can noticeably reduce ongoing costs.
Do you offer maintenance and support for swim spas?
Yes — we provide maintenance, spare parts and repairs for all swim spas and whirlpools we supply and install across Mallorca, including pumps, filtration and control systems, with parts stocked locally.
Can I get a personalised quote for a swim spa?
Pricing for our Swimspa range depends on the model, zone configuration and site conditions (foundation, electrical connection, access). Contact us for a tailored quote — we will also confirm what electrical supply your property will require.
