From Old to New

A leaking whirlpool replaced by crane at Costa de la Calma — narrow-street access, overhead cables and a single, precisely planned lift.

Project Overview

At this property in Costa de la Calma (Calvià), an older whirlpool had developed a leak and had reached the end of its life. The old unit was removed and replaced with a new spa — delivered and positioned by crane.

The challenge was access. A narrow street limits where the crane can stand and extend its outriggers, and power cables cross above the road. The load had to clear those cables twice: once lifting the old spa out, and again lifting the new one in.

Because the reach, cable clearance, crane position, street access, drainage and electrics were surveyed and prepared in advance, the whole replacement was completed in a single planned crane slot.

Planning & Crane Installation Process

The sequence was built around the two things that make this kind of job expensive if they go wrong: access and cable clearance. Crane hire is billed by the hour, depot to depot, so every hour of waiting or improvising costs money. With the standing position, lifting radius and cable heights confirmed in advance — and the old spa already drained, disconnected and the new spa staged — the crew could lift the old unit out and the new one in during one continuous operation.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Preparation Is What Turns An Expensive Crane Day Into One Clean, Planned Lift.

Crane hire is charged by the hour, from the moment the crane leaves the depot until it returns. On a tight site like this, unplanned waiting — for access, for cable clearance, for a spa that is not ready to move — is where budgets get lost.

The value here is not the lift itself, but everything that happens before it. By surveying the reach and cable heights, confirming the crane standing position and street access, and having the old spa drained, disconnected and the new one staged with the electrics ready, the replacement was completed in a single crane slot instead of several costly hours.

That is project management: removing the risk and the waiting, so the client pays for a clean result — not for lost time on site.

Coordinating access logistics, crane scheduling, cable clearance and precise placement takes more than technical know-how. It takes real project management experience from years of construction project management on Mallorca.

RECOMMENDED EXTRA

Fit the Coverlifter at Installation

This whirlpool was ordered with the Coverlifter — fitted at the same time as the spa, it is aligned perfectly from day one: you open and close the thermal cover smoothly and effortlessly, protect the cover from wear and make everyday use easier.

  • Effortless cover handling
  • Protects & extends thermal-cover lifespan
  • Best fitted during installation

RESULT

From a Leaking Old Whirlpool to a Clean New Installation

A difficult-access replacement does not have to mean a difficult, drawn-out project. With the crane strategy, cable clearance and site preparation planned in advance, the old leaking spa was removed and the new one positioned in a single, controlled operation — without damage to the street, the property or the schedule. The result is a fresh, ready-to-use installation, delivered on the client’s terms and prepared for easy servicing in the future.

The old spa was drained, disconnected and lifted out; the new unit was then craned in and positioned exactly on the original spot, all planned in advance to keep it to a single crane slot. New model: LS 401 Elite.

WHY REPLACEMENT WAS THE RIGHT CALL

The Condition of the Old Whirlpool

The whirlpool we replaced had gone years with little or no proper maintenance. Chlorine was added straight into the water undissolved, which slowly attacked the acrylic shell. On top of that, the pH and chlorine levels were left far too high for long periods, and that destroyed the seals between the jets and the shell.

Once those seals failed, water leaked behind the shell for a long time. Over roughly the last five years that constant moisture corroded the frame, which is normally protected stainless steel, to the point where it was structurally affected. By the time we inspected the spa, a repair would have cost so much that we advised a full replacement instead.

This is exactly why, with every new whirlpool we deliver, we explain clearly how it should be looked after. It isn’t complicated, but a whirlpool, just like a swimming pool, needs regular, correct maintenance to last.

Challenge

  • Old whirlpool with a leak, due for replacement
  • Narrow street, limited crane footprint & overhanging cables
  • Overhead cables to clear — twice
  • Two lifts in one operation (out & in)
  • Smooth extraction of the old pool
  • Costly crane time if unplanned
