Luxury Whirlpool at a Classic Mallorcan Mansion

At a historic finca in Bunyola, Mallorca, a Waterwave Nizza II whirlpool was set on a new foundation beside the pool — craned in over the garden hedge and finished turn-key in a single installation day.

Project Overview

This classic Mallorcan mansion sits among the orchards and hills of Bunyola, in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana, and is let to holiday guests. The owner wanted a proper luxury whirlpool beside the existing pool — a warm counterpoint to the cool infinity water, with the same open view across the valley.

The choice was the Waterwave Nizza II: a generous four-seat spa with a double lounger, forty-two jets and four pumps, finished in aluminium cladding with a grey thermal cover. Deliberately a standalone system — its own filtration and heating, not tied into the pool — so it runs and is serviced entirely on its own.

From planning to handover the job was managed end to end: a new concrete foundation beside the deck, a dedicated power circuit, the crane lift over the garden, and an optional heat pump for the shoulder season. One coordinated installation day, one point of contact.

The Setting & the Site

A historic stone finca sets its own rules. The whirlpool had to feel like it belonged beside the pool and the wooden deck — not perched on the timber, but on solid ground that could carry roughly 1,850 kg when filled. The best spot was where an old orange tree stood, right next to the pool. So the site was cleared and prepared before the spa ever arrived: the tree removed and a new concrete foundation of about 2.5 × 2.5 m poured level with the deck.

Electrically, the spa runs on 400 V three-phase power. The existing installation was extended with a separate 32 A circuit for the four pumps and heater, and a mandatory boletín / CIE certificate was issued for the new connection — the paperwork a rental property in Spain needs to be fully in order.

Installation Day: The Crane Lift

With no vehicle access into the garden, the whirlpool was delivered on a crane truck at the entrance and flown in over the hedge — a reach of up to fifteen metres, swinging the spa high past the stone walls of the mansion and setting it down inside the garden. From there it was walked across to the pool area and lowered onto its new foundation. It is the kind of lift that looks dramatic and has to be entirely routine: planned reach, planned path, one team.

The Nizza II is a large square spa — 230 × 230 × 92 cm — with four seats and a full-length double lounger. Forty-two jets and four powerful pumps drive the hydromassage, controlled from a Balboa Spatouch panel with Wi-Fi as standard, so temperature and settings can be checked from anywhere. Grey thermal cover, aluminium cabinet, around 1,500 litres of water.

Here it was set up as a fully independent system. Rather than sharing water with the pool, it keeps its own filtration and heating — simpler to run and to service, and completely unaffected by whatever the pool is doing. Fill it, heat it, lift the cover and use it.

THE PROJECT

From Bare Garden to Turn-Key Spa — Managed as One Job

This was a full turn-key installation at a classic Mallorcan finca in Bunyola, planned and delivered from one hand. The site sat behind a garden a truck could not enter, so every step had to be sequenced in advance — there was no room to improvise on the day.

We began by preparing the ground: a dedicated concrete foundation cast beside the pool to carry the filled weight of the spa, and a separate level base behind the guest house for the heat pump. A separate certified 400 V three-phase circuit was run and documented with its boletín. On delivery day the Waterwave Nizza II was lifted by crane over the garden and set precisely onto its foundation, then connected as a fully standalone system with its own filtration and heating. The optional heat pump was tied into the existing pool installation to add warm-water weeks in spring and autumn.

RESULT

A Warm Retreat Beside the Pool

Where an orange tree once stood, there is now a luxury whirlpool set into the terrace beside the pool — the same open view across the Bunyola valley, with warm water on demand all year. Because the Nizza II is standalone, it looks after itself: its own filtration and heating, its own simple routine, no dependence on the pool. The stone mansion, the infinity water and the spa read as one composed outdoor scene. For a rental property, that is the whole idea — a genuine luxury feature, delivered turn-key and ready to enjoy from day one.

What the Owner Gains

A historic finca is a beautiful but demanding place to add a modern spa. There is no room for improvisation: the ground has to carry the weight, the power has to be right and certified, and the delivery has to reach a garden a truck cannot enter. Get any of that wrong and the project stalls.

Planned as one job, it comes together cleanly. A dedicated foundation beside the pool, a separate certified circuit, a crane lift sized to the reach, and a standalone spa that never complicates the pool’s water care. The optional heat pump adds warm-water weeks at each end of the season.

The result is a luxury whirlpool that suits the house, works from the first day, and asks almost nothing of the owner between guests — everything from one hand, locally, done properly.

Before the whirlpool ever arrives, the groundwork decides whether the project succeeds. We managed every part in sequence: a dedicated concrete foundation cast beside the pool to carry the filled weight, a separate certified electrical circuit, and a level base behind the garden for the heat pump that extends the warm-water season.

The heat pump is sized to the whirlpool and connected to its own equipment, so the pool’s plant room stays uncluttered. Clean routing, clear labelling and one certified setup make the whole installation easy to service — everything planned and delivered from one hand.

SEASON EXTENSION

An Optional Heat Pump for the Shoulder Season

To stretch the swimming season at the pool, an optional heat pump was added — enough to comfortably cover roughly three extra weeks in May and three in October. It sits on its own level foundation behind the guest house, out of sight, and connects to the existing pool installation.

Because the whirlpool runs standalone with its own heater, it does not depend on this at all — the heat pump is purely about getting more warm-water weeks out of the pool, quietly and efficiently.
