Whirlpool Meets Pool

At a holiday-rental finca in Son Carrió, a new whirlpool was connected to the existing pool system — filtered by the pool and refreshed with pool water three times a day, fully automatically.

Project Overview

This country estate near Son Carrió, in the east of Mallorca, is let to holiday guests. The owner wanted a whirlpool next to the pool — in the round, sunken basin of a former fountain on the terrace. That fixed the position from the start, and the round RS 200 was chosen to fit it.

The special request: guests should never have to deal with water care. So instead of a stand-alone spa, we adapted the whirlpool to run on the pool system. Filtered, treated pool water flows in on a timer, and the overflow runs back into the pool.

From first site visit to finished installation took less than three weeks. The owner’s own plumber, mason and electrician prepared the site to our plans, we checked their work before delivery, and the whirlpool was craned in and connected in one day.

Planning & Installation Process

The whirlpool had to sit exactly in the old fountain basin, with the new supply pipe, the return pipe and the power cable coming up through the terrace floor. There was no room to shift it afterwards. So everything was drawn up first: where each pipe enters the basin, which diameters, on which side of the pool filter the supply is taken. The owner’s team received preparation guides in German, Italian and English, and we went through the plant room with them before a single pipe was laid.

A Whirlpool That Runs on the Pool — Fresh Water Three Times a Day.

Whirlpool overflow running back into the pool

Normally a whirlpool is a closed system: the same 825 litres are heated, filtered and dosed with chemicals for weeks, until someone drains and refills it. In a holiday rental, with changing guests every week, that is exactly where water quality problems start.

Here the whirlpool is tied into the pool’s filtration. A 25 mm supply is taken from the pressure side, after the pool filter. A programmable valve opens three times a day while the pool pump is running, and filtered, treated pool water flows into the whirlpool. The surplus leaves through a 40 mm overflow and runs back into the pool by gravity.

The result: the water is refreshed every day, the level stays constant, and there is one water treatment for pool and whirlpool. Guests simply lift the cover and use it.

From an Old Fountain to a Pool-Integrated Whirlpool

The unused fountain basin is now the best spot on the terrace: a whirlpool beside the pool with a view of the hills. Because it is connected to the pool system, it looks after itself. The water is topped up and refreshed automatically, the overflow feeds back into the pool, and the owner does not have to arrange separate whirlpool maintenance between guests. For a rental property, that is the point: a luxury extra that does not create extra work.

WHY POOL INTEGRATION WORKS FOR A RENTAL

What the Owner Gains

The biggest risk with a whirlpool in a holiday rental is water quality. Many different guests, sunscreen, irregular use, and nobody checking the chemistry every day. A stand-alone spa then needs frequent draining, refilling and dosing — or it goes wrong.

With the pool connection, the whirlpool shares the pool’s filtration and water treatment. Three times a day fresh, treated water flows in and the used water is pushed out through the overflow. The water level corrects itself, even after evaporation or a busy day.

It is not a standard option. It only works when the pool system, the pipe routes and the timer are planned together: supply on the pressure side after the filter (never on the suction side), a non-return valve, and top-up times that match the pool pump. That planning is what we did here, together with the owner’s team.

Guest Manuals in Several Languages & Wi-Fi Included

A rental whirlpool is used by people who have never seen it before. So we wrote a bilingual operating guide (English/German) specifically for this installation, plus a quick-reference card and a sign next to the control panel: temperature, jets, bubbles, light and how to secure the cover in the wind.

The Wi-Fi module was installed as well. The owner can check temperature and settings from anywhere through the app — useful when guests arrive and nobody is on site.
