A Hot Tub Where Nothing Fits

In a tight, walled courtyard in Cala Santanyí, a new whirlpool had to replace an old inflatable tub and fit neatly under the window. With no way through the narrow lanes, we lifted it in by crane — over the roof and down into the courtyard, without a scratch.

Project Overview

This house sits in the old streets of Cala Santanyí, behind a walled courtyard reached only through narrow lanes and a tight stone archway. The owner wanted to replace a temporary inflatable tub with a proper whirlpool — in the same corner, tucked under the window.

Two things made it difficult. The spot could not be reached with the whirlpool by hand or by truck, and the unit had to be low enough to sit under the window. A standard-height spa would have blocked the window and never made it through the lanes.

So we chose the low-profile Chicago (just 74 cm high) and planned the delivery as a crane lift. Together with our transport partner, the wrapped whirlpool was craned over the house and lowered precisely into the courtyard — no damage to the walls, the roof or the terrace.

  • Low-profile Chicago — 210 × 140 × 74 cm
  • Cala Santanyí, Santanyí (Mallorca)
  • Tight walled courtyard, narrow lanes
  • Craned in over the house
  • Placed under the window, no damage
  • Spa handrail + step

Access & Installation

Every tricky installation starts with the access. We measured the lanes, the archway and the courtyard, checked the crane reach and the lift path over the roof, and matched it all to a whirlpool that would actually fit the space — and the window. On the day, our transport partner set up the crane in the lane while our team received and guided the whirlpool down into the courtyard.

THE LIFT

Over the House and Into the Narrow Private Courtyard, Without a Scratch.

When a whirlpool cannot be carried or wheeled to its spot, the only way in is up. Here the courtyard was closed in by the house on one side and walls on the others, with lanes too narrow for the unit to pass.

So we brought in a crane. The whirlpool was wrapped and strapped, lifted from the truck in the lane, swung up over the roof of the house and lowered — slowly and under guidance — straight onto its spot in the courtyard. Careful rigging and a spotter at the bottom meant no contact with the walls, the tiles or the window.

How the lift worked
  1. SurveyMeasure the lanes, archway and courtyard; check crane reach and the lift path.
  2. Wrap & strapProtect the whirlpool and rig it for a balanced, controlled lift.
  3. Over the roofThe crane lifts from the lane and swings the unit above the house.
  4. Lower inGuided down into the courtyard, exactly onto its spot under the window.
RESULT

From an Inflatable Tub to a Built-In Whirlpool

The same corner under the window is now a proper spa. The low-profile Chicago sits neatly below the sill, finished with a handrail and a step, a thermal cover, and a care & aroma package to get started. Where there was a temporary inflatable tub, there is now a solid whirlpool that looks like it was built for the spot — because it was planned to fit it exactly.
